Stretch marks are not limited to the abdomen, they can also appear on the thighs, arms, and buttocks of women during their pregnancy. The breasts are also susceptible to stretch marks, as they also grow rapidly during pregnancy.
Factors that put some women more at risk for permanent or more severe stretch marks include:
- women with a family history
- women who have had stretch marks in previous pregnancies
- women who have gained a lot of weight or gained a lot of weight quickly during their pregnancy
- women who are dehydrated
- possibly ethnicity
Women who have had previous pregnancies or have excessive and rapid weight gain are more at risk because the uterus is stretching much more that what the body is used to, so the skin must stretch as quickly as it can as well, making the lines more dramatic.
Dehydration can affect the stretch marks since it removes some of the skin’s natural elasticity. By drinking a lot of water and making sure to stay hydrated, women can greatly reduce the amount of stretch marks cheaply and effectively.
